5The best multipurpose kayak available.
By Rob
Lifetime markets 3 versions of it's Manta kayak each with a specific color and included features. They are all based on the same HDPE hull and as such have the same weight capacity and tracking characteristics. These are not well suited for regular use as a touring kayak it's short length and wide beam give it great stability that simply isn't available in most kayaks without the use of an outrigger. This width at the same time reduces the distance you'll recieve for each stroke. Tracking quality actually increases as the load increases without a further decrease in distance/stroke due to the hulls dual pontoon design. It's overall size is compact enough for 1 person to handle on land if they have the strength to deal with it's weight of 60 lbs. I highly recommend a scupper dolly although I was able to deal with it balanced upsidedown on my back and across my shoulders.

This lime green base version doesn't have the hatch, rod holders or fold down paddle storage clips of the top version Sportfisher model and it doesn't come with paddles like the other 2 versions.
When comparing this version against the middle version there are only 2 differences the price and the inclusion of a pair of paddles. For the added cost you can have the lifetime branded paddles or else opt for this version and choose your own paddle.

Cosidering the price difference between the base version and the sportfisher version... I already had paddles that satisfied me and was able to customize the kayak to suit my needs without exceeding the cost of the sportfisher.

I added the rear hatch and 2 rear rod holders like on the Sportfisher. On the stern deck I added 2 more eyes and ran more bungee lines for an additional tiedown area on top of the rear hatch. In the bow I add 4 footman loops for 2 scuba tank tiedown straps both port and starboard. Under the front bungee I added another hatch for anchor and rope storage. 1 rope cleat was added both fore and aft for anchoring and mouring.

The addition of the fore and aft hatches help give access to the interior of the hull which allows you a choice of fastening hardware for other accessories. It also allows you to install emergency floatation, added storage space and to run wiring for navigational electronics and lighting.

In summary this kayak does quite a bit well. It is at it's best loaded for an excursion whether that be a tandem cruise or equipped for some other activity like fishing, scuba diving or camping.

4Excellent Family recreational kayak
By Al K
Pros:Versatile, 3 seat positions, Tracks well as a single, Stable
Cons:Difficult to load on SUVs, Heavy almost 3 ft wide
Best Uses:Recreation paddling, Photography around lakes, Fishing, Family use with Kids

I bought this kayak primarily to introduce my young son to the sport by doing tandem paddles with him on the local lakes around. This is not a kayak meant for ocean trips. Its very well built and thoughtfully designed. You may need longer than usual paddles since the kayak is almost 3 feet wide near the rear seat position.
Used as a tandem the Kayak is a bit slow but thats because it is only 10 ft long compared to similar sit-on-top tandems that are 12 ft or 13 ft long and heavier. Paddling as a tandem with a lighter smaller person in the front seat position the kayak experiences a slight lift in the front making it that much harder to track. Having said that its an excellent kayak for someone looking to enjoy short couple of hours of paddling on a calm lake, bay or a slough. It has enough room to pack a dry bag on it to hold a snack pack or camera etc. Paddled as a solo kayak this behaves almost perfect with the nice stability and 10 feet length and appears quite nimble.
Now to the cons...the kayak is a bit heavy to load and unload by one person alone. Also its short and wide size makes it cumbersome to put on top of a SUV for example. For a single person use one would definitely need some loading assistance either from a buddy or a kayak loading mechanism like a Roller loader. The good news is that there are hundreds of DIY videos to make a loader for around 30 bucks for something like this. Also its difficult to carry from the car to the water without a cart or Kayak wheels. So that should be a consideration before purchase.
Now the best part, its MADE IN USA!

5SUPER STABLE
By Panko
__HIGHLY RECOMMENDED___ as a FUN BOAT (or fishing platform) for 1 to 3 passengers! Not the best design for touring or distance paddling. Very strong and well designed hull. Seat clips recessed and unobtrusive - comfortable and ergonomically designed seating and foot stops. Seemingly indestructible and very hard to capsize (easily righted when intentionally flipped when swimming alongside)

Pros: Easily manages its 500lb capacity - comfortably carries two adults and a child, - also handles well by a solo paddler. Re-boarded from the water with little effort (after intentionally jumping overboard)

Cons: Bulky and awkward to be carried by one person (though very possible @ 55lbs). Molded hull handles make carrying by 2 persons a pleasure!
